Waitakere Sporting Rifle Club (WSRC) Safety Rules
- All visitors and new members are given a good grounding in firearms safety and the safe handling of rifles.
- All shooting is supervised by Range Officers.
- Empty Chamber Indicators or Chamber Safety Flags must be in rifles at all times, unless on the mound and the rifle is pointing down range.
- All firearms and magazines are to be cleared by a range officer, prior to being removed from the firing point.
- Ear protection is mandatory when on range. There are club ear muffs ones available, however you can bring your own. Headphones are not a suitable form of ear protection. High grade (class 5) are not permitted, as everyone must be able to hear the range officers orders.
- All shooters are to wash their hands after shooting to minimise lead exposure.
- Eye protection is not required, but may be worn at the discretion of the individual.
7 Rules of Firearm Safety
All visitors and members are expected to know an follow the 7 rules of firearm safety:
- Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded.
- Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction.
- Rule 3: Chamber a cartridge only when ready to fire.
- Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt.
- Rule 5: Check your firing zone.
- Rule 6: Store and transport firearms and ammunition safely.
- Rule 7: Avoid alcohol or drugs when handling firearms.
